About
In the fall of 2007 Þórir Jóhannsson and Sveinn Kjartansson bought Sýrland from Sena, a subsidiary of the media company 365, which had owned it for years.
Sýrland has three different locations in and around Reykjavík:
· Vatnagarðar 4, the home of Studio One, the largest recording studio in Iceland. This location also houses three dubbing studios, teaching facilities and the company’s headquarters.
· Skúlatún 4, home of the original Sýrland, has two more recording studios.
· Trönuhraun 4 in Hafnarfjordur, or Sýrland Hafnarfirði (also known as Hljóðriti) has two recording studios as well a mastering suite, named Írak.
In addition, Sýrland supplies all types of mobile recording equipment, including two specially designed vans that are perfect for recording live events. These vans are used all over Iceland – at music festivals, churches, concert halls, sports arenas and elsewhere – to record concerts large and small.
Sýrland’s production and design department has many years of experience designing CD and DVD covers and we work closely with Sony DADC in Austria in the production stage.
Sýrland is perhaps best known for dubbing cartoons and other material into Icelandic for the domestic cinema, television and home video markets. We offer a wide variety of seminars, including dubbing for children and adults, and beginning and advanced recording techniques. Since 2009 we have collaborated with the Technical College of Reykjavík to teach audio engineering.
