Dubbing

Bringing entertainment to young Icelanders

One of the things Sýrland is most known for is dubbing cartoons and other material into Icelandic for the domestic cinema, television and home video markets. We have a great deal of experience in dubbing, and as a result you can expect highly professional results from us.

We offer three separate, fully equipped studios devoted exclusively to dubbing and the best directing and technical talent available in the field. Many of Iceland’s most beloved actors and actresses provide their voices to Sýrland, and our extensive operation employs a great many talented actors and translators on a part-time basis.

You may be curious to know how exactly the process works, and how we put all this experience and talent to use.

The dubbing process

Once a television channel has purchased material, they send us a sample for viewing. We then procure scripts from the material’s production company and farm the scripts out to be translated into Icelandic. At this point the director will cast the roles, which in some cases must be approved by the production company. Once the scripts have been translated and casting has been completed, recording can begin.

Actors are recorded one at a time. Once the whole cast has been recorded, the recordings are examined to make sure they are in sync with the picture. The entire Icelandic dub is mixed (for 5.1 surround and Dolby, if required) and added to the picture, and then the director reviews the finished outcome to make sure that it corresponds to the client’s wishes.
