Syrland in Hafnarfjörður

Syrland in Hafnarfjörður (Hljoðriti)
Hjálmar, Hjaltalín, Memphismafian…
Sýrland’s Hafnarfjörður studio (also known as Hljóðriti) is one of the oldest and most highly regarded studios in Iceland. Founded in 1975, it was long considered the best studio in the country and on a level with the best studios abroad. After a period of disuse, Hljóðriti was reopened in 2004 under the Sýrland umbrella. Now managed by Kiddi from the band Hjálmar, the studio has grown immeasurably since its rechristening. The wonderful spirit of the old studio remains, however, in the old-school furnishings and décor. Some even say that the lava-decorated walls of Hljóðriti still hold hidden “treasures” from long ago.
Memphismafian, the house band at Sýrland Hafnarfjördur, is a critically acclaimed ensemble that is often compared to the original “Motown band” from Hitsville U.S.A. in Detroit. The Memphis Mafia, famous for its creativity and its musical contributions to a variety of different projects, consists of many of Iceland’s finest musicians.
